    Stephen Sikes asked:

When you are running your own business, you may have a lot of your personal life and your business life tangled. This is very natural for those who are running a small independent business. You may share your personal home with your business, having turned one room into an office. You may share your personal vehicle with your business, using it to go on calls or make deliveries.  But this sharing should stop when it comes time to deal with the money of your business.

Many people make the mistake of using their personal credit cards for their business purchases as well. Instead, it is much wiser to use business credit cards for all your company purchases.

    Professional Look

First things first. If you want to be taken seriously as a business, you know appearances are everything. You likely have business cards, stationary and all the other appropriate items with your business name and logo on them. But, when you go to work with vendors and purchase items, you are doing it with your personal name on a credit card. The same is true if you are taking a few clients out for dinner. Instead it is best to have a business credit card with your business name on it, which gives off more of a professional appearance.

    User Flexibility

If you do happen to have an employee or two working for your business, giving them your personal credit card to make a few purchases is just not wise. While you may think you can trust them, it just takes one angry employee to ruin your personal credit life. Instead, you should have business credit cards. With business credit cards you will be able to add users to the account, and remove them as necessary. You will also be able to limit or restrict the spending of each individual employee to suit your buying needs.

    Record Keeping

Another great benefit of business credit cards is that they make it a lot easier to do your record keeping at the end of the month. Instead of having to sort through all the things on your personal card statement and try to figure out what was a business expense and what wasn’t, you will get one statement that has all your business expenditures, ready to file.

    Rewards

The final great reason to have small business credit cards is that you can cash in on the money you have to spend. If you choose rewards credit cards as your business credit cards you can add up points quickly towards free travel or even cash back.

A business credit card is essential for any business. If you have started a business of your own, you should look to establish credit in the name of the business. One way to do that is to apply for a credit card in the name of the business. This will not only enable your business to establish credit, but it will also help when it comes to separating business expenses from personal expenses.

When you are looking for a business credit card, you will see that you have many choices. They include getting a rewards credit card for your business.  Many business owners feel that the rewards credit card is right for their business, especially those that offer frequent flyer miles or other perks that are related to business. If you use the business credit card for all of your purchases, you can then get some rewards that can be used for both, business or personal reasons.

Another thing that you should look at when you are shopping for a business credit card is the annual fee. Many business credit cards charge an annual fee to keep the card. In some cases, the annual fee is well worth the low interest rate for the credit card and other perks it may offer. In other cases, the annual fee is not worth the money as you can get a better business credit card that offers you a lower rate and no annual fee. This is why it pays to shop around whenever you are looking for credit cards – both personal and business.

Shopping for a business credit card can be a bit overwhelming, but does not have to be. You can use a site online that will tell you everything that you need to know about credit cards and offer you selections on business credit cards right on the site. The more you learn about the business credit card, the better your choice will be. By using an online site, you can go into the world of the different credit card choices and choose one based upon information that you glean on this site. This can make it easy for you to make such an important choice as to what business credit card you should use.

Be sure to keep your finances separated when you are using credit cards for business and personal reasons and save all of your receipts as well as any business credit card statements. This will help you when it comes time to file your income taxes. Co-mingling of funds is a big no-no when you are in business, so having a business credit card is not only a way for your business to establish credit, but it can also help you avoid any problems with the IRS.

Take a look online at the different credit cards offered by various companies and choose the perfect credit card that is right for your business. Be sure to use your business credit card for business purposes only and save receipts and statements.

Hi, I ask this mostly out of curiosity. I have a business card from Chase. I’m not 100% sure why I have it considering that I don’t have a business, but oh well. Anyways, the thing is that they just sent me a notice saying that they have to raise my interest rate to make a profit. I’ve always paid my card on time and I always pay more than the bare minimum. I know this is my chance to get out of my agreement, but I am pretty ticked off considering all of the bailout money that these companies just got. It’s crazy that people with good credit that are being responsible are getting hit for the mistakes of others. Anyways, I was wondering how would this affect my personal credit if at all? If I remember correctly, I never see this card or account listed on my credit reports.
For Pojo…It is in my name. There is no and has never been a business attached to it. I just got it in the mail one day and decided to apply for it and they gave it to me just using my own basic info.

Discover Card now offers its own version of business credit cards. Discover Card has been known for their customer service, and this dedication for service continues in their business credit cards product. Whenever you need to contact them, Discover Card assures you that business credit card specialists will always be on hand, that they will take your telephone calls quickly and that your queries will be attended to promptly. Discover does not treat this availability as a benefit, but rather view it as a service commitment to their Discover Card business customers. There is a wide range of benefits to be had on your Discover business credit cards though. Here follows a few of these:

Cash Back Bonus Business Credit Cards

Using your Discover Rewards business credit card, will entitle you to 5% discounts on office supply purchases, 2% on gas, and 1% on other miscellaneous purchases. This could translate into significant savings for your business, especially because this business credit card also enables you to earn valuable Rewards points

If you opt to redeem your business credit cards cash back bonus in the form of gift cards or e-certificates from their participating 70 brand-name partners, you will have the opportunity of doubling your points. This means that you can get gift cards or certificates to use for a variety of different items – and should that be your choice, even a Cruise.

If, on the other hand, you elect to redeem in cash, you can nominate how the payment should be issued and into which account it should go. This could be in the form of a check, an electronic deposit to the bank account of your choice, or as a credit on your business credit card account.

    Travel Miles Business Credit Cards

If your business requires frequent travel, the Discover Miles Business Credit Cards will come in useful. Your business credit card account earns up to one mile for every dollar in usual purchases, double miles on your gas (at the pump or in the station) and double miles for travel purchases (plane tickets, car rentals, hotels). There is a limit of $5,000 imposed in terms of the amount you can accumulate on the business credit cards’ double miles feature, but when all is said and done, that is still a substantial amount.

You won’t have to wait long before you can start redeeming the miles on your business credit cards. You can redeem the miles as gift cards from 50 brand-name participating partners in a graduated manner: $5 for 1,000 miles, $25 for 3,500 miles and $50 for 6,000 miles. Once you reach 5,000 miles, you can start redeeming these miles as cash back rewards.

    Other Benefits

There are also other, standard benefits for business credit cards. You will get quarterly and annual statements that summarize all expenses charged against your business credit cards; the summaries are already categorized to make your bookkeeping simpler, and you can receive statements online ready for download into popular accounting software applications.

You can customize your employees’ spending limits on their business credit cards online, and when you use your business credit card to pay for travel, you’re automatically covered for accident insurance and car rental insurance. A new benefit is that you can purchase checkbooks with your Discover business credit card, thereby enabling payments to those companies that don’t accept business credit cards yet.

    Abhishek Agarwal asked:

So you wish to start a photography business? Well that is not as difficult as some people make it out to be. You could start your photography service right from your own home, with almost no expense at all, if you already own the gear. And we believe anyone considering starting their own photography business will probably already own a good flash and camera.

    The right approach -

It is easy to say that you are going to start shooting commercially, but it takes a bit of experience to be as dedicated as a commercial photographer. Even if you are an advanced photographer, and have never charged for a photograph all your life, you have a couple of things to learn still. Remember, when you are charging a client a fee there is no excuse for a bad photograph. We do not mean to judge your capability as a photographer. All we are trying to say is there may be situations where you will go ahead and shoot outdoors in low light if you are shooting for free, but you should think twice about such situations where you are charging a fee. One bad image and people will start calling you a bad photographer. It is therefore much safer for you to be a little fussy and do not shoot at all unless you know you will get the perfect lighting and composition. That is the mark of a professional, and only time will tell you when you have reached that point. When you are shooting for your own self you try and make do with what you have available. When you are shooting for money, you do not settle for anything other than the best situation.

    The Miscellaneous expenses

When you do begin a photo business, you will need to print stationary and business cards. A website is a great idea to promote your service, as is leaflets and brochures. Since you probably already have the major expense of equipment taken care of like we assume, these should not pose a big threat to your wallet. Take the time to design all areas of your business and the ‘office’ if at home or outside. If you have a basement area you can convert into a studio there’s nothing like it. Build your collection of accessories when you can. Get a slave light now and a back ground cloth then. This is a cost effective way into the business. The approach would be totally different when you want to open a commercial photo studio where your livelihood depends on it. What we have put down is a plan for you to ease your self into the market while you still have your day job. If all goes well, and you have a few regular clients, then go ahead and take the plunge by dedicating all your time to the new venture. All the best!
