    Stephen Willis asked:

Finland used to be regarded as a remote, far flung destination but contrary to common public perceptions, it is a powerful business centre and a model for efficient freight forwarding operations. The country’s positive approach to international freight is part of a comprehensive strategy to build its global competitiveness.

Finland has the second highest *********** of broadband internet in the world (second only to the US) and it has the very highest *********** of mobile phones in the world.

These statistics are indicative of how very outward looking, innovative and connected Finland is. In fact, driven by its success in high-tech, including its most famous brand Nokia, Finland is the most competitive country in the world, according to the Global Competitiveness Report. It also has a strong biotechnology, paper and shipbuilding industry. Believe it or not, 25% of all cruise ships are made in Finland. Little wonder then that freight transport in Finland is trouble-free and efficient, which is good news for both the freight company and its customers.

Finland is a EU member country and shares a border with Russia, so it has a unique position in freight services at the epicentre of a fast developing marketplace that includes North West Russia, Scandinavia and the Baltic republics. So Finland is an extremely important gateway for shipping companies.

Finland’s gateway position as a freight forwarding route to Russia is significant. Over 40% of the EU’s road freight to Russia are shipped from Finland or travel via Finland. Because of its excellent international freight infrastructure, many foreign companies use Finland as a base for their transportation and marketing to Russia and the Baltic countries, especially Estonia.

The freight transport system is effectively based on its road and rail network, which is supported by a large number of freight services companies. There are more than fifty shipping ports in Finland, of which more than ten are on the inland waterways, which are connected to the Baltic Sea by the Saimaa Canal. Just under half of the ports are open the whole year round, so a shipping company can rely on freight transport in the region being stable and reliable.

The ports of Hamina, Kotka and Mustola, which are near the Russian border, focus on bulk cargo, free zone activities and forestry goods. All ports in Finland make good use of automated techniques, meaning that freight forwarding is efficient and fast. One aspect which really helps freight transport is that Finland’s rail gauge is the same as Russia’s.

The international freight connections with Russia will be further boosted by a highway that is being extended in Southern Finland to reach the Russian border at Vaalimaa. The E18 road, which runs all the way from Kristiansand in Norway to St Petersburg in Russia, via Sweden and Finland, is a crucial artery and is part of the European Union Trans

European Road Network system, connecting up the EU member Nordic capitals.

The combination of its excellent road and rail network with its efficient range of year-round ports means that Finland is an important hub for shipping companies. The country’s freight services will only continue to increase in importance as the economies in Russia and the Baltic countries expand.

Private transportation companies very rarely transport products by themselves. Today, many companies prefer having their own truck fleet and drivers to make a transportation department. Stephen Willis asked:

A new report on the freight services industry by Accenture says that two things separate the best performing freight companies from other shipping companies– mastery of standardised processes and the use of integrated IT.

By applying automated processes, companies can cut the costs of freight transport, reduce errors and accelerate speed to market.

Meanwhile, the use of integrated IT creates transparency for both freight companies and their customers as well as streamlining processes, increasing efficiency.

Nowadays, customers looking to arrange shipping have increasingly high expectations of transparency. This has largely been created by their experience of other markets online. For example, passenger airlines now routinely offer flexibility, choice and transparency as standard. Few companies in the freight forwarding industry are able to meet these expectations yet.

The only way of providing the speed and agility that customers want is to make significant changes to IT systems and put technology at the heart of the business.

This can enable, for example, regular freight transport updates to customers as well as ensure that all critical data is available at all times to all concerned. A good freight company will automatically update the final recipient of the goods on progress related to the delivery, saving the customer time and trouble. This level of customer service creates a competitive edge, separating the winners from the losers.

The freight transport companies that make the investment in IT and technology will be the ones that prosper in future. Another way that a freight services supplier can use IT to deliver what their customers want is to provide advice and guidance. With the growth of China import and trade with other emerging markets, many UK businesses are moving into international freight for the first time. These businesses want to be able to turn to their shipping company for a guiding hand. So as well as providing advice by telephone, the smart company is making increasing use of email newsletters to help provide the general information their customers want.

And by making use of a virtual private network, freight companies can offer flexible working to staff, so that staff can work just as effectively wherever they are at the time. This can mean a faster, better freight service for customers as well as making it easier for companies to provide the 24/7 service customers increasingly demand. In future, as broadband speeds increase, it is perfectly likely that shipping companies will make regular use of video conferencing in their discussions with customers, even using video to introduce agents in their network in other countries, making their freight services feel more personal.

Freight forwarding companies will also be able to include the use of video in their websites, perhaps to feature overviews of particular shipping destinations or to illustrate technical details. Use of video over broadband in this way will help customers better understand the international freight industry as well as help create differentiation for the individual shipping companies that seize the initiative.

So through the integration and imaginative use of IT, a freight transport company can stay ahead of the game, giving their customers what they want.

    R. Sebastian Gibson asked:

    1. Trucks are bigger than you.

    2. You won’t come out well in a match up with a truck.

    3. Trucks can’t stop as fast.

    4. Trucks need wide turning areas.

    5. Truck drivers can’t always see you.

    6. Truck drivers may be sleepy.

    7. Truck drivers may be distracted.

    8. A truck may need to merge into your lane.

    9. Trucks may slow as they approach scales.

    10. Trucks may be backed up near scales.

Here are ten useful tips of advice from a truck accident lawyer to follow if you have been in an accident. You can also learn more about how to handle a truck accident in Santa Maria, or any city, by calling the Law Offices of R. Sebastian Gibson at any of the numbers which can be found on our website at http://www.SebastianGibsonLaw.com  and learning how we can assist you.

Obviously, if you have had an accident, and you are reading all of this advice, it’s probably been at least a few days since the accident. However, if it’s only been a few hours or if you ever have another accident, here’s what you should do the next time from the start.

First, take a look around and determine if you or anyone, are hurt. If so, taking steps like trying to prevent further injury or loss of blood are the most important thing you can do. Even if some other driver caused you to be injured, it’s just good manners to help the other driver if they are hurt. They may even be so thankful that they admit their fault to you. The worst thing you can do is get angry or start a fight.

Second, make sure everyone is safe from being injured further. If you are in the middle of traffic, and you are dizzy, sit down away from traffic. If your vehicle is a traffic hazard and you have accident warning devices like flares or triangles, put them out on the road to warn other drivers and get away from the car. Let the police an other emergency personnel investigate the scene with the vehicles in place and move them more safely at a later point.

Third, call the police. Accident reports are extremely helpful if the police will do such a report. Let the police know you are injured immediately. Answer the police questions honestly. But if you are dazed or confused, let them know you need medical treatment and answer only what you feel sure about. Remember, your statements can and will be used against you if you admit fault, and it will be too late and too fishy to later say you didn’t know what you were saying at the scene. Police know that your best recollection is immediately after an accident.

Fourth, get the other driver’s information including their names, addresses, driver’s license numbers, make and model of their vehicles, license plate numbers, and their insurance company name and policy number. If there are witnesses, get their names, addresses and telephone numbers as well. If the other driver makes any admissions of fault, write those down as well.

Fifth, if you have a camera on your cell phone or in the car and you aren’t too injured, take some photos of the vehicles and the scene. If you can’t do it right away, do it after you are released from the hospital.

Sixth, if you are hurt, obtain medical treatment. Don’t decline the ambulance or hospital examination to save your insurance company money or to be stoic. Take your valuables out of your car if you can and get checked out at the hospital. If you are not hurt, don’t get treatment you don’t need. However, remember, after an accident, you may feel a rush of adrenaline that causes you to only start feeling symptoms of pain a few hours later. If you have a health plan that requires you to obtain permission first, call them and find out where you are allowed to seek treatment.

Seventh, call a good truck accident lawyer as soon as you have had your initial treatment, so the attorney can gather other important evidence and prevent the insurance company from taking advantage of you and obtaining such things as recorded statements that you feel fine, when many of your symptoms have yet to manifest themselves. A good truck accident lawyer can save you from making a great deal of mistakes and can shoulder much of the hassle of knowing what to do about car repairs, car rentals, medical treatment, witness statements and the like. If you think you will save money by not having an attorney, think again. A good truck accident lawyer can almost always obtain much higher settlements, obtain reductions of medical bills and insurance liens and prevent you from making costly mistakes. Also, most truck accident attorneys advance costs of obtaining police reports, medical records and the like and are paid and reimbursed for these costs only out of any settlement.

Eight, you will need to report the accident to your insurance company, but since they will want to take a recorded statement from you, just like any other driver’s insurance company, it’s good advice to retain an attorney first. And if the other driver did not have insurance, remember that it is your own insurance company that will be your adversary. You will also need to report the accident to the Department of Motor Vehicles and your lawyer can give you the form for this.

Ninth, do not agree to settle your claim privately with the person at fault for the accident. This almost never works out to your advantage. Don’t agree not to call the police. Police reports that determine the fault for an accident are golden. Your agreement to not involve the police only affords an opportunity for the other driver to change his story and blame you when the police will no longer investigate the accident.

Tenth, don’t pay a traffic ticket without a fight if you weren’t at fault or agree to accept a small payment for your vehicle repairs without knowing that the amount will in fact cover the cost of all the repairs.

If you’ve had a truck accident in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, Camarillo, Ventura, Oxnard, Cambria or San Luis Obispo, or anywhere in Southern California, we have the knowledge and resources to be your Santa Maria Truck Accident Lawyer and your San Luis Obispo Truck Accident Attorney. Stephen Sikes asked:

When you are running your own business, you may have a lot of your personal life and your business life tangled. This is very natural for those who are running a small independent business. You may share your personal home with your business, having turned one room into an office. You may share your personal vehicle with your business, using it to go on calls or make deliveries.  But this sharing should stop when it comes time to deal with the money of your business.

Many people make the mistake of using their personal credit cards for their business purchases as well. Instead, it is much wiser to use business credit cards for all your company purchases.

    Professional Look

First things first. If you want to be taken seriously as a business, you know appearances are everything. You likely have business cards, stationary and all the other appropriate items with your business name and logo on them. But, when you go to work with vendors and purchase items, you are doing it with your personal name on a credit card. The same is true if you are taking a few clients out for dinner. Instead it is best to have a business credit card with your business name on it, which gives off more of a professional appearance.

    User Flexibility

If you do happen to have an employee or two working for your business, giving them your personal credit card to make a few purchases is just not wise. While you may think you can trust them, it just takes one angry employee to ruin your personal credit life. Instead, you should have business credit cards. With business credit cards you will be able to add users to the account, and remove them as necessary. You will also be able to limit or restrict the spending of each individual employee to suit your buying needs.

    Record Keeping

Another great benefit of business credit cards is that they make it a lot easier to do your record keeping at the end of the month. Instead of having to sort through all the things on your personal card statement and try to figure out what was a business expense and what wasn’t, you will get one statement that has all your business expenditures, ready to file.

    Rewards

The final great reason to have small business credit cards is that you can cash in on the money you have to spend. If you choose rewards credit cards as your business credit cards you can add up points quickly towards free travel or even cash back.
